Marshall Mabry - Undignified Worshiper of Jesus Christ

Some worship thoughts for followers of Jesus Christ!

Desperate for Christ

O Father! Where are You in times of trial and trouble? When nothing seems to make sense? When fear grips my mind in a desperate attempt to render my heart? When dread overwhelms my hope in the future? When love fades and pride focuses? When my strength dissipates and my body moans for nourishment? When I am abandoned and left in painful agony?

O God! Sin has brought me to ruin. It has created a chasm of suffering and despair. Where joy and peace are lost in a brothel of selfishness. It strangles my life with lies and gossip. It obscures my vision from the narrow path. It brings death to my face.

O Lord! You have never left me. Amidst the storms of worldly distraction, and the chaos of sin from my flesh, and the slings and arrows of temptation, You have promise me; that when I am still and deeply search my heart, there in the quiet of my soul, I will find You. Your unfailing love. Your living water. Your healing touch. Your voice comforts me and Your Word leads in the way everlasting.

Genesis

Love Never Fails

In the beginning there was love. Love defined life. Love gives and gives. Love painted a skyline, a seashore, a mountain top. Love created company, fellowship and order. Love was paradise. Love never fails.

God is most glorified in Himself!

Angels

Human attempt at impossible

“He leads me in paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake.” (Psalm 23)

He leads me…for His Name’s sake! He leads me! For His Name’s sake! Who’s leading, guiding, directing? Why is He doing this? What is His purpose for leading me in paths of righteousness? Worship leaders! Don’t think too much of yourself! Rebuke your pride! Repent of your selfishness! God is not surprised! God is not impressed by our feeble efforts to compose or perform music to His glory. He created us. He knows us. From the hairs on our head to the number of days in our lives, He knows everything about us — no surprises. We were created below the angels of heaven who eternally sing in His presence. Their physical beauty is beyond our comprehension and description. Let alone their music and ability to perform music. He will not miss or be upset with a humanity without Bach, Mozart or Beethoven. He will not lament over a generation without the Beatles, Rolling Stones, or even Chris Tomlin. He is God! He can not be contained, described, or belittled by our enormous, incredible, fantastic attempts to magnified Him. Only He can give Himself the praise He is due! He alone is God, there is no other like Him. He is a jealous God. He is most glorified in Himself.

The Beauty of My Mother

Dedicated to Toshiko Soto Mabry (Jan 1, 1930 – August 27, 2011)

Letting go of someone who has meant so much to you all your life is extremely hard. Someone who never did anything out of selfishness. Someone who gave up everything important for family. Someone who made sure to set the example of goodness, kindness, and gentleness. My mother was this person to me. She loved ten completely different children with everything we define as “love.” She loved us uniquely and individually. She lived a life of love filled with the happiness of caring. When she laughed it was with genuine joy. It was contagious.

A Pastor once told me that “you can only give away as much love as you have been loved.” We are loved by a great God. Our Heavenly Father sent His only Son, Jesus Christ to die on a cross to take away the sin of all mankind. There is no greater love than His. We must choose to receive it. When we do — we become vessels of His infinite source of love. Now, it is our choice to keep it or give it away. We are commanded by Christ to pour it out on an undeserving world, filled with hate, darkness, and despair. He did it — and His great love fills the world today. It is the basis to every righteous, truthful decision. It is the spark that sets in motion forgiveness, mercy, and grace.

My mother taught me how to love. I believe God used my mother’s love as Love’s beginning lesson which will eventually grow into (and with) His eternal love. Though every living person must pass from this world into eternity. My mother’s love stays with me, so she stays me. And when I am in the presence of my Lord Jesus, my mother will be with me – because she love me and she gave her love away.

Fishing

Fishers on Men

Fishing in the wrong place?

“Being with nonbelievers is the first step in fishing.” We are to be channels of God’s Truth and Love, not reservoirs. They are His gifts. We were created to give His gifts of love, truth, and even our lives away. Sadly, many of us cling to the safety of Christian fellowship and never venture out to where the fishing is really good. It requires work, effort, planning, and sacrifice.

I believe that in this slow journey of spiritual maturity there are many “subtle” stumbling stones. They disguise themselves as pointers, but after spending any length of time around their arena — you will stumble. One is self-righteousness, the other is social isolation. God’s Word states “none are righteous!” Only Jesus did what needed to be done. Only Jesus is righteous! It is His righteousness that intercedes for us with our Heavenly Father.

We create a cocoon of safety within the confines of our church and Christian fellowship. We build walls around our prejudiced theology reluctant to let anyone or anything in from the outside. We fear that these outside influences might spoil our purity, our holiness, our self-righteousness. Jesus said “Go!” and make disciples. Filling your head with the knowledge of God’s Word is important, but James says “Faith without deeds is dead.” “He who is full loathes honey, but to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet. “ (Proverbs 27:7)

“Being in the world, but not part of it” can be hard to separate. Some temptations are too strong for some and not for others. Break down the barriers preventing you from fishing in good spots. If invited, go to the bar with friends and have a “good” time. Go to office picnics and shine! Join the local softball team and make a difference for love! Chaperone your teenager’s dance and let God’s goodness speak through you! Coach your child’s soccer team and model honesty, charity, grace, and mercy! Be different for goodness’ sake!

Jesus says this in Luke 7:31-35:
“To what, then, can I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to each other: “‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not cry.’ For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and “sinners.”‘ But wisdom is proved right by all her children.”

We Live to Love

Jesus is the way.

Jesus Christ is the way.

We live to love. How we show it is up to each individual. Gifts are a strong way. But, they can lose the intent of their meaning if they are trivial expressions – no matter what the cost. Our most precious gift from our Heavenly Father is “Life.” Jesus said “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” (John 1:13, NIV) This is the ultimate expression of love. There is no greater gift one can give than his/her own life.

We sing worship to our Lord offering our lives to Him as an expression of total devotion. Meanwhile our neighbor is lost, hungry, naked and poor. The world’s darkness grows in the face of the Holy Church. Revelation foretells the answer, the return of our King, Jesus Christ. He is our hope and salvation. There is no other. Yet, amidst all the current Christian hypocrisy and fear, I believe we still make a difference. We are the resistance against the devil’s tide. We are the stars that boldly shine out in the vast darkness. We are the conscience of the lost calling out “Come Home!”

Jesus showed the way of Love. He died for us while we mocked, scorned, and hated Him. It would be easier to die for a friend, but He died for His enemies. He died so that they might come to the knowledge of True Love. He paid the price. He lived what He said. He lived and “died” to show us love.

Psalm 139

Psalm 139

Psalm 139

Sometimes I feel so far away from You, my Lord! But. I know You are right here. Because it is Your Word. You reveal Yourself in the Truth that You allow me to recognize. The beauty of creation untouched by Man. Its majesty and wonder are still a mystery. You are in every honest word of encouragement. You are the heart that sparks every laugh filled with unspeakable joy. You are the inspiration in every relationship which foundations are trust and love. You are everywhere. High and low, in the highest of heights and the lowest depths of the earth. You are near and far – close and distant. As King David sings in Psalm 139 “No matter where I go …You are there.” You were, You are, and You will always be!

Secret Prayer Develops Faith

Secret Place Prayer

Jesus said to give without the right hand knowing what the left hand is doing. Give in secret where no one but your Heavenly Father sees you. There is a divine reward for these “secret” givers. God gives to just and the unjust. I believe that we do not see most of the blessings our Father of Lights rains down upon us. Secret prayer has the same divine blessing as secret giving. I believe that one of the main blessings is increase faith. What a man does in secret is the content of his character. His integrity. Integrity is developed by discipline. Faith’s discipline is constant prayer. But it’s strongest exercise is “secret” prayer. Go into your closet, close the door, and pray to your Heavenly Father in secret. He will reward you. His answer will not be what you would expect. His response to prayer is directly related to measure of faith we personally have in Him. Secret prayer develops that faith. Secret prayer develops a heart to see as He sees, hear as He hears, and touch as He touches. We become more tuned to the Holy Spirit. He lays out a holy perspective and sets up the order of precedence within our lives and our prayers. Maturity will usually lead us to complete selflessness in prayer. Until our deepest desire is for His return and scriptures fulfillment. So, when you ask your Heavenly Father to increase your faith — begin to answer it by creating more opportunities for “Secret Prayer.” You will discover the intimacy God intends for us to have with Him in the secret place. It has a reward more valuable than anything in this world.

Well Done! Servant.

Jesus Christ

The Greatest Servant

“Well done! Good and faithful Servant.” Six words every Christian dies to hear. I believe that our Lord only says these words to those who have given their lives away in this world. The true Christian investment is a selfless life bearing a cross daily. It is a life given away in the service of others. Do you truly love one another as you love yourself? Do you have agendas and schedules to meet that sacrifice love for personal achievement, financial security, or comfort? Do your goals in life supersede the needs of someone else? I challenge you to give your competitor the better parking spot. Share your lunch with someone hungry. Put another person’s shopping cart up. I once heard “this life is only a training ground for heaven.” I wonder if our agendas and schedules really matter to anyone other than ourselves?

Marriage: Holy Matrimony

Marriage

Beauty of Marriage

Marriage is ordained by God. Like it or not — this is His Word on the subject:
Ephesians 5:22-32 — New International Version (NIV)
22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing[a] her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body. 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”[b] 32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.

Too many times we try to twist the meaning of God’s Word concerning marriage to match our personal preferences. It is perfect and beautiful just as God intended. It doesn’t need to change to cater to our comfort. It doesn’t need to be diluted by our immature faith. It doesn’t need amplification, addition or subtraction. It’s perfect. The change is our responsibility. As our faith in Him matures, our understanding of His Word grows. Our reception to the Truth moves our beliefs into action and total acceptance and surrender to our Lord’s Will is the consequence.
