Marshall Mabry - Undignified Worshiper of Jesus Christ

Some worship thoughts for followers of Jesus Christ!

Boredom

There is an old adage “The Devil works with idle hands.” Boredom and slothfulness are enemies to our faith. They allow our minds to wander in directions that usually require repentance and cleansing to get back to the grace of God. I believe there’s always someone who needs prayer, there’s always someone who needs help, there’s always someone who needs love, there’s always someone who needs Jesus. A lot of the time — it is us. I believe that the blessing of ministering comes more to the minister than those being ministered too.

You may feel alone and isolated from time to time. You may feel fear. You may have doubt. But God knows you! He put all those feelings inside you. He allows the suffering to purify the soul. He is forging you into His instrument of love and grace. He will never leave or forsake you.

When trouble, despair, and suffering becomes unbearable, we that have His breath, that call ourselves by His Name, that are His body, His hands and feet in this broken and dying world, should bind together and let His mercy and love move us to action — and shine!

Righteous Living

It is amazing to me that Jesus told us everything we need to know to live peaceful, righteous lives in Matthew 6. A righteous life is about giving, filling needs. (Loving mercy! Micah 6:8) It’s about praying and fasting. (Talking to God and denying yourself. Walking humbly!) Jesus tells us the truth on how we receive our “heavenly paycheck.” He said that your reward in heaven comes from doing these things in secret where only our Heavenly Father sees them.

Living a life filled with worldly distractions and relying your own strength are enemies to your faith. Trusting and acknowledging God as your constant Provider is essential to living a prosperous and peaceful life. In all that you do, honor Him by giving praise for His worthiness. Worship Him and Him alone. Every breath, every step, every honest gain in your life comes from righteous living and are blessings from God. Those blessings mature when we give them away — in secret.

God always wants to prosper us. It has always been in His plan. Everything that is His is ours through Jesus Christ. True prosperity is only earned through righteous living in knowledge of the grace of Jesus Christ.

A Psalm of Worship

Holy Father!
O that I may be found a worthy servant
That everyday my life would sing a song of praise to You
That charity would be my passion
That service would be my creativity
That encouragement and truth would be my word
That the joy of everything You are to me would be contagious and free
That the transformation from who I was to who I am going to be speaks of Jesus Christ
Thank you Father for Your goodness!
That we might have a glimpse of the perfection we aspire too.
That we would know darkness from light, and temporal from the eternal
That Christ is the only Way, Truth, and Life to You.
And in Him we find our righteousness to petition Your mercies and blessings.
Amen.

A Psalm of Worship

O Lord! I cry out
When the enemy tempts me to despair
I reach for You and You alone
From none other will I find refuge, strength and comfort
You have given me breath for life
The sun, moon and stars for light
Sounds to learn and make music to praise You
The wind to know the touch of coolness
Rain and water to refresh my body and spirit
You provide good food to strengthen me
You provide our clothing for protection
Everything about You is good.
You are the Everlasting Father!
You are forever faithful.
Everyday I will praise Your Name.
Holy Father,
Forgive me for I am an unworthy servant.
Have mercy on me for I have wasted Your goodness on selfish desires.
Except for my sin, all that I had, all that I have, all that will have — has always been Yours.
My life is your gift. My wife is your gift. My children are gifts from You.
All the material things I possess are gifts from You.
O Lord! Teach me Your ways.
So I may be found faithful in returning Your many blessings invested and multiplied.
Bringing glory and honor to Your Name alone.
For only You are worthy of all honor, praise, and glory.
Amen.

I Surrender All

God is so big! Of the estimated 155 billion people ever born, all have had the unique privilege of having a personal relationship with him. It is our personal journey called “life.” It’s very simple. Live a selfish life serving yourself, or a life serving Him by serving others. Jesus showed us the way. In Matthew 6, Jesus tells us the Truth on how to live a peaceful, harmonious, righteous life. In verse 33 He says “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” The more stuff you have in life, the more you have to learn to surrender. This makes life proportionately more complicated. If you own ‘stuff’ like a car, house, furniture, etc., chances are you have loans, insurance, taxes, and other responsibilities to maintain your stuff. Every piece of stuff you own requires a certain amount of time and effort to maintain it. Many of us are more controlled by grasping onto our hard-earned stuff, rather than knowing that God gave it to us so that we could learn to give it away.

Your Word is Life: God Is Love (part 3)

God is love.

What is your definition of love? Is it based on your feelings, your emotions, your mind, your intelligence, your flesh, and/or your strength? If God is love, are not mercy, grace, and justice part of what we know to be His amazing character? In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul defines in maturity order the attributes and characteristics of love.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

I believe the main reason we don’t understand God, is that we do not fully understand love. God’s image of love is first pictured to us as children through our parents. For example, the discipline (justice) love of our father and the merciful love of our mother. As we mature, we get another glimpse of God’s image of love through our relationships. Later, God continues to grow us in His image when we become parents and see another side of His accessible, unfailing, ubiquitous, everlasting love. Sadly, I believe that is where most of us stop pursuing love.

Love is a life-long, daily, second-by-second, heartbeat-by-heartbeat pursuit. It should be our passion in life. Jesus said in John 17 “3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” To know true love is an eternal pursuit of seeking God and His Son through the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit that lives in everyone who has received Jesus Christ.

We can not limit our love to just relatives and friends. We must mature our love to reach out and accept what we do not understand. We can not limit our love to conform to the world’s definition. We must learn to give grace and love to our enemies so that they might see the image of God in us.

Your Word is Life: Conformity (part 2 )

The only obstacle to God’s Kingdom coming is our will. For God’s will to be done, our will must surrender and submit. Jesus lived a sinless life. Yet, we in our pride, our lack of mercy, our ignorance of grace, could not see the Truth, the Life, and the Way. Since Jesus would not conform to our image, we crucified Him.

Sadly, that tragedy of events still plays out today. We take what is innocent and what we do not understand and if it will not conform to our beliefs — we kill it. Marriages, friendships, and relations are severed everyday for lack of conformity, ignorance and pride. We are only to conform to one image — Jesus Christ.

Holy is the Lord! God Almighty! Of every person ever born of woman only Christ is Holy! Our heavenly Father’s ways are not our ways. Inasmuch as we may try to understand His will for our life, we only get a glimpse of the mark. That glimpse is Jesus Christ. It is only through God’s grace through faith in Christ we are saved and transformed in His image.

Your Word is Life: Fear of God (part 1)

Where is the fear of God in this generation? When sharing the gospel we should have no fear except the fear of disobedience that commands us to proclaim it. The proclamation of the gospel is a simple task. “Jesus is the way to eternal life and He is the answer.” Nothing else needs to be elaborated, discussed, or defended. Jesus said if they receive the message then bless them and discipleship begins. However, if they refuse to accept the message “shake the dust off your feet and move on.” Again, no discussion or defense is necessary. Move on!

Too many times we believe we have something to do with the process of salvation in a lost person’s life. Jesus handled that task two thousand years ago. He said “if I be lifted up, I will draw men unto me.” The Holy Spirit is already at work on our Lord’s people. Our job is to lift Him up and witness His amazing work.

Truth is our Moral Compass

The Truth is the truth whether it is spoken from a pagan or a priest. Even the “legion” demons possessing the man recognized Christ for who He is – “Son of the Most High.” They knew what is true and spoke it out. When you are in His awesome presence you recognize and acknowledge the truth. Whether from the action commandment of “love your neighbor” to the preventative command of “Thou shall not kill” you can not change what each represents — Truth. How the message of Truth is packaged and delivered is of no consequence to those in the body of Christ. Satan will use God’s Word to tempt us while we are in the desert. Jesus said “I am the Truth” and “my sheep hear my voice.” As a follower of Christ, we recognize and respond to the Truth in accordance with the Holy Spirit that lives in us. John said “if we do not have love the Truth is not in us.”

A Psalm of Worship: The Way Everlasting

O Father! What thoughts can I hide from You?
Your Word is in my heart and my mind
My soul longs after You.
I cherish Your commandments
You are the way everlasting
Whether I am alone or surrounded by a great crowd of witnesses
You are there
Your mercy makes each day new
Your grace refreshes my heart
The joy of everything You are to me is my strength
Nothing can stop Your wondrous plans for me
Your plans to prosper me and give me a future
Even when I am old and grey
You will remember me because of Your Son, Jesus Christ
Your unfailing love is more than enough to sustain all that I am and will ever be
Abide in me O Holy Spirit
Comfort me in times of need
Guide me in the way everlasting
