Sing To Jesus Always

Can a song sing the Name of “Jesus” too much? I believe it’s the song we need to sing every day of our lives. What is this life compared to the eternal life we have because of Jesus? 80 years? 120 years? In the scope of eternity, it’s just a brief moment. Let us always sing to Jesus with all our strength and with thanksgiving in our hearts, minds, and souls.

Nehemiah 10 – “Nehemiah said, Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Psalm 118:14 – “The LORD is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation.”

Romans 8:38-39 – “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

The Message is Still the Same

After being filled with the Holy Spirit, and led into the desert to be tempted, Jesus begins his ministry by returning to his hometown of Nazareth and reading the Gospel from the scroll of Isaiah, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.”
(NLT, Luke 4:18)

In Mark 1:14-15 Jesus says, “Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”

Jesus sends out 72 evangelists instructing them to “Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’” (Luke 10:9)

Our message to a lost world is still the same. “Bring the Good News to the poor.” Freedom, healing, truth, and God’s favor are all key components in our Gospel. But, repentance is necessary to start the journey of faith with Christ.

Keeping some things sacred!

Jesus-Holy-Spirit-2312Our Lord said to keep the Sabbath day Holy – sacred – set aside from the other days. A day to separate yourself from your work and rest in Him. God ordained that day for us. He knows we need rest from the weariness that sometimes accompanies our day-to-day work. He gives us six days to be creative, to labor by the sweat of our brow and receive His blessings. Then, He commands us to set aside one day to focus our thoughts and our energy on giving back to Him. After all, doesn’t “everything” belong to Him anyway?

His word leads us in the way everlasting. It guides us to better understand what is vital for our eternal souls’ welfare, not our personal desires for physical comfort. You will only know what is Holy by what you define as Holy! For example, is your spouse Holy to you? Have you set him/her aside from the world? Is his/her physical body sacred to you? Would you share their bodies with the world?

There is a discipline, a perseverance that must accompany our walk in faith. There is a reason why our Lord said we “must deny ourselves…” There are boundaries that must be set in order to find the “narrow road” to everlasting life. They are not to be interpreted as punishment or restrictions, but as sacred markers pointing the Way. In hiding His holy, sacred Word in our hearts we better understand the freedom afforded us by His suffering and death on the cross. For the just punishment we deserve, He gracefully took for us to be free from our sin, guilt and shame.

Truth is our Moral Compass

The Truth is the truth whether it is spoken from a pagan or a priest. Even the “legion” demons possessing the man recognized Christ for who He is – “Son of the Most High.” They knew what is true and spoke it out. When you are in His awesome presence you recognize and acknowledge the truth. Whether from the action commandment of “love your neighbor” to the preventative command of “Thou shall not kill” you can not change what each represents — Truth. How the message of Truth is packaged and delivered is of no consequence to those in the body of Christ. Satan will use God’s Word to tempt us while we are in the desert. Jesus said “I am the Truth” and “my sheep hear my voice.” As a follower of Christ, we recognize and respond to the Truth in accordance with the Holy Spirit that lives in us. John said “if we do not have love the Truth is not in us.”

The Narrow Road is Freedom

Freedom

...the Truth shall set you free. - John 8:32

Many people even Christians believe that choosing the “narrow road” forfeits a life of freedom for one of total servitude. Every choice we make in life has consequences. They can have a huge impact on our lives or they can be barely noticeable. Jesus said in order to follow Him we have to “deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow.” If you live a life filled with selfishness, then “Yes!”, your freedom of choice has been severely limited. But at what sacrifice or exchange? Every commandment our Lord gave us was for freeing us from bondage. Our sin and selfish choices has only led to death and suffering in this world. Christ’s commandments lead to the prosperity found in true freedom, contentment and peace found in any circumstance, and true joy found in the simple, ordinary things within day to day living. God opens our eyes to the things that really matter — that have true everlasting beauty, not a passing fancy or fad. You may not remember the day you got your first Ipod, but you remember the moment you first fell in love. Christ lets us see beauty in the ordinary, greatness in small matters, potential in the trivial, and freedom in service.

In this day and age we have limited, personalized definition of freedom. Among many other factors, it is subjective to our culture, financial and political views. In truth, freedom is only found in our faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus is the narrow way. He said, “I am the Truth” — “and the Truth shall set you free.”

Matthew 16:24 (NIV)
24Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. 26What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? 27For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done. 28I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”
