It reminds us that Christianity is not merely about doing things for God; it’s about knowing Him—and being known by Him. In this passage, Jesus is talking to people who claimed spiritual activity: prophesying, casting out demons, performing miracles. These were impressive works, yet Jesus says, “I never knew you.” Not “you didn’t try hard enough,” but “I never knew you.” The issue wasn’t their performance—it was their relationship.

He calls them “workers of lawlessness” because their works were disconnected from His will. They carried His name, but not His heart. They served in public, but not in obedience. They did the right things without the right relationship.

Jesus calls us to move from religious activity to authentic intimacy. From knowing about Him to living with Him. From calling Him “Lord” with our lips to honoring Him as Lord with our lives. He invites you to a deeper relationship. Not based on your achievements, but on your surrender.

Lord Jesus,
Help me not to just do things for You. Help me live my life with You.
